Care Guide

All of our products are made from 925 Sterling Silver

Care Instructions

We recommend that customers remove jewellery before going to bed or participating in physical activity. Exposure to certain harsh chemicals or environments could result in compromising the integrity of your jewellery. This includes, but is not limited to the following: perspiration, perfumes, cleaning agents, chlorine, salt water, and sulphur-rich environments. In the majority of cases, if your jewellery is exposed to one of the above, it can be cleaned/polished back to its original condition.

Cleaning Your Sterling Silver Jewellery

Silver Image Jewellery recommends the purchase of a silver cleaning solution or polishing cloth to shine your 925 Sterling Silver jewellery.

A silver-polishing cloth is very effective to make your sterling silver jewellery shine again if the pieces have become dull. The polishing cloth is most appropriate for jewellery items that are flat and smooth such as plain bands, hoop earrings and most pendants.

A silver cleaning liquid/solution is recommended for necklaces, bracelets and other intricate items that have hard-to-reach areas that a cloth cannot reach. A polishing liquid is suitable for use with cubic zirconia stones and most non-porous semi-precious stone items. Pearls, Shells and other porous inlays and stones should not be submerged in a cleaning liquid.

If you have any concerns about polishing one of your Sterling Silver items, please don’t hesitate to contact us for advice!

 Storing Your Jewellery

Jewellery should be stored away from natural sunlight and heat, in a protective jewellery box or a tarnish-resistant pouch. Use of an air-tight zip lock bag is also effective is preventing sterling silver from tarnishing. Never use polyvinyl plastic bags, such as trash can liners as they contain sulphur compounds, or rubber containers which will make sterling silver tarnish faster and possibly turn black (This can be remedied if it does occur with one of the cleaning products recommended above). Do not store your jewellery in the bathroom.

Please note that our Silver Image Jewellery boxes are not made for long-term storage as they are not airtight and tarnishing will occur over time. Sterling Silver is a soft metal and can show signs of wear and tear over time. This is true for all genuine jewellery. Depending on the degree of use, it is recommended that your jewellery be inspected at least once a year by a jeweller. Silver Image Jewellery does have an in-house jeweller that can repair and inspect sterling silver jewellery. In particular, it is important that clasps, mounts, and soldering are checked.
